Dance Music Value
The Dance Music Industry’s Value Slips

For people searching for a good time, dance music has always been a popular genre. However, according to a new analysis, the genre’s worth has dropped to a 10-year low.

The pandemic and a lack of nightclub and party activities have been significant factors in the drop. In addition, the analysis stated that the genre’s worth has decreased from $7.3 billion in 2020 to $3.4 billion in 2021.

However, once global lockdowns are unlocked, there might be considerable growth returning to figures seen in recent years.

Sir Elton John
Sir Elton John Is Not Happy With The British Government

Sir Elton John is not happy about the British government’s management of the music industry post-Brexit and has labelled them “philistines.”

Feeling ‘livid’ due to the travel problems within the entertainment sector, Elton said: “I’m so angry. I’m livid about what the government did when Brexit happened. They made no provision for the entertainment business, and not just for musicians, actors and film directors, but for the crews, the dancers, the people who earn a living by going to Europe.”

“People like me can afford to go to Europe because we can get people to fill in the forms and get visas done, but what makes me crazy is that the entertainment business brings in £111 billion a year to this country and we were just tossed away”

Is Twitch The New Money-Maker For Musicians?

According to a former Spotify executive, Twitch is becoming one of the best sources of money for musicians compared to other streaming platforms.

Will Page, a former Spotify employee, has discovered that Twitch earnings have skyrocketed, which is unsurprising considering that musicians have been flocking to online live events due to the lockdown.

Surprisingly, the study concludes that Twitch will continue to be a viable money-making tool even when more gigs reopen.

Music Venues
Music Venues Are In Desperate Need Of Help

After the lockout extension, a top music leader has repeated that venues throughout the UK are eager for additional government funding.

Mr Gregg said, “We were lucky enough to get funding from round one and round two of the cultural recovery fund but that runs out at the end of the month.”

“I am more down now than I have been throughout because the sector as a whole has been well supported and the Music Venue Trust has been fantastic in getting us that support but now we feel all that support is for nothing. The way the Government see it is it is another four weeks but if we are losing thousands each week you can’t carry on.”

“It is a long time and there is no certainty that the restrictions will be lifted in four weeks anyway. In March 2020 we were told it could be three weeks and here we are 17 months down the road.”

It is a massive blow to be closing the venues again. In a couple of weeks we have gone from massive optimism and looking forward to getting the whole thing going again to doom and gloom and people are wondering how long before we can get back to doing what we love doing.”

This news comes after countless festivals and venues have had to cancel more shows for the upcoming months.

Music Board
Music Board To Aid The Industry’s Post-Lockdown Recovery

A group of music industry professionals in the West Midlands have banded together to help the county’s music sector rebound after the COVID-19 lockout. The board will plan how to get more music played nationally and regionally, bringing more attention to the region.

Lady Leshur is one of several artists that have praised the concept, saying: “There is an amazing music scene in the West Midlands, and we need to shout about it more. We need investment, training and opportunities for our talent to breakthrough. It’s great to see this board come together to make that happen.”

Lawrence Barton, Danni Brownsill, Guy Dunstan, Bobby Friction, Holly Hollister, Pete Jordan, Alicja Kaczmarek, Lisa Meyer, Sarah Morgan, Nick Reed, Reuben Reynolds, Despa Robinson, and Louise Stamp are among the members of the board.

The label had been a strong contender for the purchase of US podcaster Wondery, but Amazon beat them to it.

Racial Diversity
New Report Reveals The Music Industry’s Lack Of Racial Diversity

According to a new report, there is still ethnic diversity in the music industry. Furthermore, in the United States, white senior executives outnumber black female executives by about 18 to 1.

Furthermore, according to the survey, less than a quarter of white artists are likely to confront racial inequity, compared to 80 per cent of black artists.

The report goes on to say: “This leaves underrepresented and Black artists doing the work of inclusion for the entire industry, it’s time for the rest of the business, including white artists and executives, to ensure that the pool of underrepresented talent in these roles has access and opportunity across the entire ecosystem.”
